Welcome to our Licensing Blog, which takes a light hearted look at our mysterious world.

March heralds another month of madness(Posted: 23-02-2010)

As February draws to a close, for a fleeting moment I thought that perhaps the madness of the first two months of 2010 was going to slow down a little. But then I looked at the schedule for March and realised that this isn’t going to happen…

Nobody seemed to be in the office over the last 4 weeks. They were either at PaperWorld in Frankfurt or the London, Nuremburg or New York Toy Fairs (or any combination of the above!). The general feeling seems to be that these shows all benefitted from a slight upturn this year, and most I have spoken to about them are pretty optimistic about the business they will generate from them  in 2010.

So March drifts in next week with a group of brave and foolhardy souls taking up the Light Fund Bobsleigh Challenge in Innsbruck, Austria. I have to admit to feeling quite pleased with myself that I persuaded my editor to do this instead of me. I don’t do “rides” – I was once sick after a trip on the monorail at Great Yarmouth – and that was flat and slow! I daren’t mention the Winter Olympics in the office at the moment due to all the luge and bobsleigh crashes on the much-discussed course in Vancouver.

The week after brings us to the inaugural Brand Licensing Central & Eastern Europe exhibition to be held in Budapest; a new dedicated licensing event from the UK Advanstar team. It will take a few years of course, but these guys have made such a success of their London show that I am confident we will see this event grow into the calendar.

The third week of March takes us to Manchester for the Northern Light Fund Quiz. I am pretty sure a good time will be had by all!! I for one am willing to risk a hang-over for charity! The Light Fund looks set to generate some decent income in March and will once again benefit some very worthy causes.

A busy time ahead again then. Oh, and don’t forget you’re leaving it a bit late to be looking at your flights for Las Vegas………….
