The book, “Monica’s Gang in: Classic Tales” received the
Bing Xin Children's Literature Award of 2011 in China.

The book was published in May of 2011 by Sun Ya Publications, from Hong Kong. On 240 pages, with color illustrations, the Gang retells the tales of Andersen, Grimm, and Perrault in their own way: Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Puss in Boots, and Rapunzel to name a few.

The Chinese literary award receives its name, Bing Xin, from a writer who devoted her life to the education of youth, especially children, through her books which are held in high regard everywhere in China.

With the award, Mauricio de Sousa’s book will enter a list which recommends books to schools, authorized by the 4th Chinese Forum of Children's Literature of the 21st Century.

The children of China have known Monica and her Gang since 2007, starting with the web site OEC (Online Education China) responsible for the dubbing and translation of Monica’s animated cartoons into Mandarin.

Since then various publications starring Monica’s Gang have been released in China, including:

- “The More You Know” educational magazines, distributed in schools.
- Sunday Pages in both children’s Newspapers “Goodies” and “Junior” published by Sing Tao Ltd.
- Comic Stories published Monthly in the “Super Kids” magazine by Juvenile & Children’s Publishing House.
- Comic Stories published Monthly in “Little Torch” magazine by Fujian Children's Publishing House.
- Book Monica’s Gang in Classic Tales, published by PHEI (Publishing House of Electronics Industry) from Beijing.

In 2011 the Sun Ya Publications from Hong Kong launched the Classic Tales book, which has won the Bing Xin Children's Literature Award in China.
This news is being celebrated by both the publishers in China and Mauricio de Sousa.

Mauricio de Sousa visited schools - throughout China on many different occasions. The last of which was during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He was invited by the Brazilian Government to be part of a panel for children during the event hosted by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), which won the 2016 Olympic Games candidacy, making Rio de Janeiro, Brazil the Host of the 2016 Olympic Games.
